II am very fortunate to be able to teach reading and writing lessons in the heart of the Boland, Paarl!
I believe reading is one of the most important skills any person will ever learn. While I was doing my Education Practical in Durbanville at Gene Louw Primary in 2002, my path crossed with the founder of Do and Learn, the late Dr. Rose Botha. Since then, I have been teaching Do and Learn lessons.
I have complete faith in the success of the programme due to its holistic approach while teaching children in a playful manner. Every time a child is able to read their first 7 or 8 sentences, I get excited all over again. My aim is to nurture a love for reading as well as give my learners the advantage of reading before they go to Grade 1. With that they develop confidence because “I can!”. I truly hope to play an important part in giving learners a “key” towards their success for their future. As Rose always said, “if a person can read, they can do anything”, and “we first have to crawl, then walk and then run.”
